The Nissan Navara is a pick-up truck aimed at tradesmen who appreciate its tough SUV styling, and its ability to work hard during the week and play comfortably with the family at weekends. The Navara also takes advantage of the very generous tax break for company vehicles with a one-tonne carrying capacity, and rivals other lavishly equipped ‘workhorses’ all trying to do the same thing. The Ford Ranger , Mitsubishi L200 , Toyota Hilux and VW Amarok are established rivals.

Dealers offer the Navara for sale powered by a beefy four-cylinder 2.3-litre diesel engine that comes with a choice of 158bhp or 187bhp thanks to single or twin turbos. All Navara Double Cab versions are full-time 4x4s, but you can also buy the King Cab with the option of 2wd. Unlike the Double Cab which has four proper doors and a full size rear seat, the King Cab has a pair of small back-hinged rear doors, and fold down rear seats.

The Navara comes in five trim levels, starting with the Visia which is well equipped with a 5-inch TFT display screen, power steering, windows and mirrors, manual air conditioning, a six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth and steering wheel controls, cruise control, stop/start, an electronic limited slip differential, forward emergency braking, and 16-inch steel wheels. Next up is the Acenta with 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome mirrors, door handles and grille, plus Nissan’s Intelligent Key system. The Acenta Plus adds 18-inch alloys, side steps, fog lamps, automatic climate control, a reversing camera and a leather steering wheel.

The new-for-2015 SR, tested here, gets sportier looks but no hardware to actually make it sportier to drive. The SL? It seems to be an exercise in loading enough features onto a $15,000 car to justify a five-figure price tag that begins with a numeral 2. So the SR tested here strives to emphasize the car’s design strength while the SL throws away the “at least it didn’t cost much” excuse for its lackluster road behavior.

We’re already on record as not being impressed with the Versa’s CVT when we tested a 2012 sedan , and the entry-level Versa Note S with a row-your-own five-speed, both of which elicited a distinct “meh.”

So you’d not expect much different from this car, even after learning that the 2015 Versa SR has new front and rear fascias and grille, darkened headlights, body-color sills, a rear spoiler, and side mirrors incorporating turn signals. The same 109-hp, 107-lb-ft, 1.6-liter four grinds away against the same recalcitrant CVT to generate sounds all out of proportion to the actual acceleration taking place. That’d be zero to 60 mph in 9.9 seconds and the quarter-mile in 17.6, at which time you’ll be doing only 80 mph. Our track-tester wryly summarized the Nissan as, “So slow and plodding.”

Plantskydd stimulates a fear-based response which will have: Deer, Elk, Moose, Rabbit, Hares, Voles, Squirrels, Chipmunks, Mountain Beaver, Nutria, Opossum and other herbivores. —looking to dine somewhere other than your garden, nursery, orchard, or tree plantation.

“rabbits and deer immediately stopped eating my flowers – I was truly blown away at its effectiveness.” I was skeptical when I first bought Plantskydd.  I had tried everything to discourage deer – Irish Spring soap, egg-based sprays, pepper sprays, urine, Skoot, electric fence – you name it.  My frustration intensified when the rabbit population… View Article

“VOLE update:  There is absolutely no sign of voles.  No holes, no mounds, no vole damage.” I actually worked in my flower bed this weekend, doing some preliminary cleaning. So, I was able to really survey the situation. There is absolutely no sign of voles. No holes, no mounds, no damage. I actually have black… View Article
